Our Life

Our life as Episcopalians begins with Jesus Christ.

At St. John's, the rhythm of our life is to worship, love, pray, and learn — following the example of Our Lord. In everything we do, we strive to follow his example. By turning to God and seeking God's grace, the Holy Spirit strengthens us to turn to our community and show God's love and mercy. It all begins with Jesus Christ.

Worship.

When we worship, we gather with others before God. We hear the Good News of Jesus Christ, give thanks, confess, and offer the brokenness of the world to God. As we break bread, our eyes are opened to the presence of Christ. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are made one body, the body of Christ sent forth to live the way of love.

At St. John's, worship is at the heart of our life together. Our worship is both reverent and relaxed, joyful and sincere. Every Sunday liturgy includes singing, readings from Scripture, a sermon, prayers for the community, and the Eucharist.

Join us Sundays at 9:30am in English or at 11am in Spanish.

Love.

Jesus said to his disciples, "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:34-35).

As a family of disciples, the love of God is what binds us together. St. John's takes time to gather together for meals, special occasions, cultural celebrations, and community events on a regular basis. We visit one another in times of need and trouble, serving as reminders of God's love that searches each of us out.

Pray.

Jesus teaches us to come before God with humble hearts, boldly offering our thanksgivings and concerns to God or simply listening for God’s voice in our lives and in the world. Whether in thought, word or deed, individually or corporately — when we pray, we invite and dwell in God’s loving presence.

At St. John's, we join in prayer every day, whether we're together or apart. We encourage all our parishioners to spend time each day in prayer, and we gather at lunchtime midweek to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Visit our Home page for opportunities to pray with St. John's and the wider Church.

Need prayer? Contact any of Our People and we'll add your request to the prayer list.

Learn.

By reading and reflecting on Scripture, especially the life and teachings of Jesus, we draw near to God and God’s word dwells in us. We also learn from those who have gone before us in the Church, bringing our tradition to life in the here and now. When we open our minds and hearts to Scripture and the teaching of the Church, we learn to see God’s story and God’s activity in everyday life.

St. John's learns from Scripture each Sunday in worship, in our seasonal Bible studies (available in English and Spanish), in the Church's daily prayer, and in our own personal reading. We regularly offer catechesis (classes for those joining the Church through Baptism, Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation) and other formation opportunities
